Divine Live at the Hacienda/Shoot Your Shot

“I was born to be cheap.”

The DVD Divine Live at the Hacienda/Shoot Your Shot is composed of live recordings of two of Divine’s concerts held at the Hacienda Club in Manchester. The two concerts were just 9 months apart–February 16, 1983 and November 23, 1983. Divine (Glenn Milstead) sweats, rasps, wiggles and gyrates his way through these two concert performances with typical panache. In the November concert, Divine asserts he is performing in a tight little dress that was a gift from Nancy Reagan. Divine’s repartee is lewd, crude, and sinks to the usual standards.

The songs performed are:
The Name Game
Shoot Your Shot
Jungle Jezebel
Born to Be Cheap
Love Reaction
Alphabet Rap
Shake It Up

Native Love
Love Reaction
(encore)

The 40-minute performance ends with a fair number of the audience of the stage dancing with Divine, and when the diva exits the stage, the crowd begs for more.

The second–and earlier–performance (36 minutes long) took place at the Hacienda Club in February 1983. Divine sings to a wooden audience that seems fairly mystified and stunned by what they are witnessing. Divine sings the following songs:
Name Game
Jungle Jezebel
Born to Be Cheap

Alphabet Rap
Native Love
Shake It Up

Shoot Your Shot (encore)

Divine fans (like me) will gasp with delight at the prospect of seeing our goddess in two live concert performances. Non-Divine fans won’t care. Watching Divine in full costume (complete with maracas) under the swirling coloured lights of the Hacienda Club is a priceless experience, and this DVD holds a treasured spot on my shelf. The DVD also includes a disc and filmography covering Divine’s all-too brief career.
